About Visiting the Bahia Street Center
We do not publish the address of the Bahia Street Center in Brazil because it is a working learning center for children, and visitors disrupt the students’ daily routine. The girls find visitors far more exciting than their studies, and the students need to focus if they are to be successful in reaching their goal of attending university. Individuals who want to visit the Center are encouraged to join our annual study trip or volunteer programs.

While we greatly appreciate the interest that so many people express each year to visit to the Center and learn about our work, we do need to limit the number of visitors in order for Center staff to stay focused on their primary mission: educating children.  Any visits that take place outside of the study trips and volunteer programs must meet a set of criteria created to ensure that these visits support the mission of the Bahia Street Center.  Visits must be of an educational nature where visitors are going to learn about what we do, not offer services.  Visits must take place while the Center is not in session so that learning is not disturbed.  We ask visitors to make a donation ($50 for individuals or $250 for groups) directly to the Center at the time of the visit to support the project and compensate the staff for their time.  Please email the Seattle office to learn how to make an appointment with the director of the Bahia Street Center.  Please note that Rita only speaks Portuguese, and all final arrangements will need to be done with her in Portuguese.
