Bahia Street’s educational programs work to free shantytown girls from the terrible poverty they are born into. Ninety percent of our students come from households with no father, and their mothers are forced to eke out a desperate living, often as a barely-paid domestic servant working long hours with no child care.
Your gift keeps girls in school and off the streets and provides them with support, counseling, and mentorship. It provides them with two hot meals and a place to take a shower every day — most do not eat at home, and their shantytown shacks do not have showers.

We’ll send the recipient a handwritten card in honor of the occasion, telling about the work we do and explaining that a donation (we will not disclose the amount) has been made in his or her name.

In the “Message to Sender” field, please include the gift recipient’s name, address, the occasion, and whether the message should be in Portuguese or English. We’ll send the card out right away.
