Bahia Street supporters represent a community of individuals working together to raise awareness and funds for the organization in various creative ways. Past events have been sponsored by universities and community groups as well as individuals, and have included:
- Book clubs — See our reading list for ideas on potential Brazil-related novels and non-fiction
- Movie nights — see our movie list for ideas
- Brazilian music and capoeira nights
- Brazilian-themed party — serve food and drink from Bahia and play Brazilian dance music
- Clothes swap party — thanks to Jenny Antilla for this idea: A group of women get together for a party and bring the clothes they no longer wear. Each item is sold to the highest bidder, and proceeds go to Bahia Street.
Around here, we don’t call it fundraising — we call it FUNraising. You can help us break cycles of poverty and violence by hosting a party, holding a rummage sale, or staffing a table at a community event. All you need is enthusiasm and a little time.
We’re currently working on gathering photos, posters, and handouts that you can just download and print from here to make your event a success. In the meantime, please e-mail the Bahia Street office or call us at (206) 633-1724 and we’ll send you the materials you need.
